GORIZIA - Medes Islands

The Gorizia, a cargo ship that went down in 1917, is definitely one of our favourite dives in the Medes. It sits upright, pretty much intact, at a manageable 25 metres, making it approachable for most divers with a bit of wreck experience. We love dropping down and seeing the bow emerge from the blue, usually swarming with barracuda. You can spend a good chunk of your dive exploring the holds, which are now home to lobsters and conger eels, their heads peeking out from dark corners. It’s a proper wreck dive, not just a pile of scattered metal. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs on the deck plating and the occasional eagle ray gliding past in the deeper sand. The visibility here can be excellent, especially in late summer, giving you a real sense of the ship's scale.
