Grand Congloué - Medes Islands

Grand Congloué is a favourite of ours in the Medes. It’s got that classic Medes vibe, big rocky formations, and some decent walls, but what really draws us here is the chance to spot the unusual. We've spent many a dive finning slowly along the reef, eyes peeled for the smaller, more enigmatic creatures that hide in plain sight. Think Risso's Crabs scuttling between rocks or the delicate frills of an Alder's Necklace Shell tucked into a crevice. The dive itself is pretty straightforward, good for a comfortable intermediate diver. You drop onto a sprawling reef that eventually slopes down, offering plenty of nooks and crannies to explore. We particularly like the shallower areas where the light plays off the rocks, making it easier to spot the well-camouflaged critters. We've had some cracking encounters with dogfish here, lurking in the shadows, and once even saw a Black-bellied angler – a genuine thrill. Keep an eye out for dory too; their flat, disc-like bodies are surprisingly elusive. It’s not about the big pelagics here, it’s about the hunt, the discovery of something a little bit different.
