HMS Sportsman - Medes Islands

The Cristóbal Colón is just… different. It’s not your usual Caribbean wreck, no colourful soft corals plastering every surface. This is a big, serious steel hulk, a 19th-century armoured cruiser that really tells a story. We love how it feels like stepping back in time, imagining the Spanish-American War as you swim past those huge, riveted plates. The sheer scale of it is what gets us every time. She's broken up, but you can still trace the outline of a massive warship. There are plenty of swim-throughs, not tight squeezes, but big open sections where the decks have collapsed. Sunlight shafts through, illuminating schools of grunts and snapper that have made the interior their home. We’ve had some incredible encounters here, including one memorable dive where a curious sperm whale cruised past in the blue. That’s Jardines for you, always a surprise. This site is perfect for anyone who appreciates history as much as marine life, or just loves the sheer drama of a huge wreck.
