la Pedra de Déu - Medes Islands

La Pedra de Déu is one of those Mediterranean dives that really sticks with you. We love the dramatic drop-off, a sheer wall that plunges into the deep, giving a real sense of exposure. It’s here, clinging to the vertical rock, that you’ll often spot dogfish nestled in crevices, or axillary sea-bream schooling in the blue. The shallower parts of the site are a different world, vibrant with Scarlet Coral and busy with Hardshell shrimp scuttling over the rocks. Keep an eye out for transparent gobies on sandy patches; they’re tiny but fascinating to watch. We’ve had some cracking encounters with sting rays here too, especially early in the morning before the boat traffic picks up. The light filters down beautifully, illuminating the colourful sponges and Neptune’s lace. It’s a site that rewards a slow, deliberate dive, really letting you soak in the details. Come prepared for currents that can pick up, but that often brings in bigger fish, like the Garrupa we sometimes see patrolling the deeper sections. It’s a great spot for advanced divers who appreciate a rugged, untamed reef.
