Le Tromblon - Medes Islands

Le Tromblon, or the "Blunderbuss," is one of our favourite wreck dives in the Medes Islands, and it’s a site we’ve returned to many times. It's not a massive wreck, but what we love is its character and the way marine life has completely taken it over. The old cannonnière, a small patrol boat, lies broken in two sections, scattered across the seabed at around 20-30 metres. As you descend, the visibility often plays tricks on you, making the metal silhouettes appear and disappear in the blue. We always make a point of looking for the resident scorpionfish, perfectly camouflaged against the rust. You’ll weave through the fragmented hull, and in the nooks and crannies, you’re likely to spot red snapping shrimp waving their antennae. Look closely for painted combers darting in and out, and we’ve often found streaked gurnards grubbing in the sand nearby. The real thrill here is the feeling of diving through history, exploring a site that’s slowly being reclaimed by the sea. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration and a keen eye.
