L'Enfant et la Mer - Medes Islands

L'Enfant et la Mer, on the north side of Meda Gran, is one of our absolute favourites in the Medes Islands. Most divers drop in near the buoy, then follow the wall down, often encountering schools of saddled seabream right from the start. We love the feeling of the rock slipping away beneath us as we descend, the light changing from bright Mediterranean blue to a deeper, more sombre tone. Keep an eye out for greater weevers half-buried in the sandy patches, and the surprising flash of a European flying squid zipping past. The real thrill here is the chance of spotting something larger – we’ve had some cracking encounters with marbled electric rays gliding over the seabed, and once even a thornback skate. It's a dive that rewards slow exploration, peering into every crevice for a hooded shrimp or an alder's necklace shell. This site is brilliant for divers who appreciate the subtle beauty of Mediterranean life and aren't just chasing big pelagics. It’s usually quite sheltered, making it a good option even when other sites are too exposed.
