Les Canons - Medes Islands

Les Canons is a site we keep coming back to in the Medes, and for good reason. It’s got that classic Mediterranean feel, a bit rugged but full of life once you settle in. What makes it a standout for us are those big cannons, obviously, but it’s the way they’ve been claimed by the ocean that truly impresses. You’ll find them draped in sunset cup coral, creating these amazing splashes of orange and red against the dark metal. It’s a photographer’s dream, particularly on a sunny day when the light penetrates just right. Our favourite time to drop in is mid-morning. You often catch schools of mullet cruising by, sometimes so thick you have to fin through them. We've also had some fantastic encounters with streaked gurnards here, their fins fanning out like delicate wings as they forage. Keep an eye on the sand patches too; we’ve spotted Atlantic stargazers buried there, just their eyes peeking out. It’s a site that rewards slow exploration, peering into every crevice, rather than racing from point to point. It’s definitely suited for divers who appreciate history mingling with healthy reef life.
