les Ferranelles - Medes Islands

Les Ferranelles holds a special spot in our Medes Islands rotation, often overlooked for the flashier neighbours. We love it because it’s a bit of a chameleon, changing with the light and current. Drop down, and you’re immediately enveloped by the rocky topography, a series of gullies and swim-throughs carved into the rock. It's not about big pelagics here, more about the intricate details. Keep an eye out for the Devonshire cup corals, little splashes of orange against the rock, and those secretive pearlfish, sometimes peeking from their host sea cucumbers. This site really shines when you slow down and look closely. We’ve spent whole dives just combing the crevices, finding hardshell shrimp camouflaged against the rock, or watching stout bobtail squid jet around. The bass and jac often school in the bluer water just off the rock, but the real show is often inside the cracks. It’s a site that rewards repeat visits and a calm fin kick, perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates the quieter side of the Medes.
