LIBERTAD - Medes Islands

Libertad isn't your deep, dark wreck dive, and that's exactly why we love it. Sunk in 1975, this old sailing vessel sits in just five metres of water, making it perfect for an easy dive, even a long snorkel. You’ll find her broken up, scattered across the sandy bottom, but the pieces tell a story. We particularly enjoy poking around the hull sections, which are now completely covered in sponges and colourful hydroids. It’s an intimate dive, a chance to really slow down. Look closely and you’ll spot blennies peeking from crevices, damselfish darting between the timbers, and often a grumpy-looking moray eel tucked away. On a sunny day, the light filters through the shallows, illuminating the debris field with a beautiful, soft glow. Our top tip? Go early in the morning before any boat traffic picks up, when the water is calmest and the resident fish are at their most active. It’s a gentle dive, suited for anyone who enjoys exploring a bit of history without the nitrogen penalty.
