Messerschmit - Medes Islands

The Messerschmitt wreck, really just a few scattered pieces, sits in a gull-wing shape, just off the Medes Islands. It’s a quirky spot, and we find it's best enjoyed when the visibility is good, usually in late summer. You don’t come here for a grand wreck penetration, but rather for the atmosphere and the smaller things. The chunks of fuselage and wing are home to some surprisingly confident dusky groupers, and you'll often see ornate wrasse flitting between the metal. We’ve even spotted seahorses clinging to the growth on the frame – a proper treat if you know where to look. We love Messerschmitt for a relaxed second dive, after something a bit more dramatic. It’s a chance to slow down, practice your buoyancy, and really observe the smaller, camouflaged critters. Look closely and you might find a Risso's crab scuttling past a patch of red snapping shrimp. The shallower depth means longer bottom times too, which is always a bonus when you're hunting for those shy Mediterranean beadlet anemones.
