MIDDLEBURY VICTORY - Medes Islands

The Middlebury Victory, sitting in a surprisingly shallow 10 metres, is our pick for a straightforward Medes wreck dive. It went down in 1947 and what’s left of the hull has really blended into the reef, creating a perfect habitat. We love drifting over the main sections, tracing the outlines where the ship once was. You'll see schools of damselfish flitting through the skeletal structure, and often a big dusky grouper or two hanging out in the darker recesses. Look closely for nudibranchs on the encrusted metalwork. This isn't a penetration dive, but you can poke your head into some of the more open sections of the former cargo holds. It’s a comfortable dive, rarely affected by strong currents, so it's a good option for newer wreck divers or anyone wanting a relaxed second dive. The visibility here can be excellent, especially in the late morning before boat traffic picks up. It’s less about identifying specific ship parts and more about appreciating how nature reclaims these man-made structures.
