Mustang P51 - Medes Islands

The Mustang P51 wreck at Medes isn’t your typical upright, intact vessel. No, this is a fascinating scatter of history, broken but compelling. We dive it for the sheer evocative nature of it all. You’ll find pieces of the old fighter plane, a wing here, some fuselage there, spread across the seabed, almost like an archaeological dig. What we love about the P51 is how the Mediterranean has completely embraced it. The metal shards are encrusted with sponges and hydroids, and schools of damselfish flit amongst the debris. Keep an eye out for sneaky red snapping shrimp tucked into crevices, their claws always ready. Visibility here can sometimes play games, but on a clear day, the way the sunlight filters down onto the scattered pieces is really something special. It’s a dive for those who appreciate history and the power of the sea to reclaim its own, rather than a deep penetration wreck. We’d suggest a calm morning for the best light and a chance to truly absorb the atmosphere.
