Nord Ratoneau - Medes Islands

Nord Ratoneau is a site we keep coming back to in the Medes, and for good reason. It’s got that classic Mediterranean feel, but amplified. Drop down and you’re often greeted by schools of salema, their silver scales flashing as they swirl past. We love finding the deeper crevices here, where the light starts to soften, and you can spot pink sea fans swaying gently with the surge. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too. The Mediterranean tooth-footed snapping shrimp are always a delight, their tiny claws clicking away in the rocks. On our last visit, we spent a good ten minutes watching a marbled electric ray glide over the sandy patches, completely unbothered by us. It’s not always a dramatic wall, but it’s consistently engaging. This site really suits divers who enjoy a more relaxed pace, happy to spend time observing the details rather than rushing past. Visibility here can vary, but even on an average day, the sheer volume of fish makes it worthwhile. We’d suggest going early in the morning to beat any boat traffic and catch the fish at their most active.
