Petit Sec - Medes Islands

Petit Sec is one of our favourites in the Medes, particularly when the conditions line up. You’re dropping onto a submerged pinnacle that offers a bit of everything, but what we really love is the chance to find some of the smaller, less common residents. We’re talking about those colourful Alder’s Necklace Shells slowly cruising the rocks, or a particularly showy Shore Feather Duster Worm swaying with the surge. The currents here can pick up, so it’s not always a beginner's dream, but if you’re comfortable moving with the water, it opens up some cracking drifts. We’ve had some cracking encounters with moonfish darting past in the bluer water off the main pinnacle, and the light filtering through the schools of barracuda can be spectacular. Look closely on the walls for tiny hooded shrimp and if you're lucky, you might even spot the odd razorback feeding on the sand. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the best light and fewer crowds. Petit Sec really shines for macro enthusiasts and those who appreciate a dive with a bit more energy.
