Rocher de la Garde (les Sardinaux) - Medes Islands

Rocher de la Garde, or Les Sardinaux as we often call it, is one of those Medes sites we head for when we want a reliable, easy dive with plenty to see. It’s not the dramatic wall of El Dofí, but it consistently delivers. We love the swim-throughs here, particularly the main one that cuts right through the rock. Head in, look up, and you’ll often see schools of snapper silhouetted against the surface. It’s a proper Mediterranean tableau. Keep an eye out for the pink sea fans clinging to the rock faces – they add a splash of colour you don't always get elsewhere. We've often spotted elliptical file-shells tucked into crevices, their tentacles waving. Our favourite tip for this site: go early. The light hitting the rock formations is just beautiful then, and you miss the crowds. It’s a great site for photographers, especially macro fans who can spend ages picking out hooded shrimp or those quirky speckled sea-lice. It’s a gentle dive, generally without strong currents, perfect for a relaxed hour underwater.
