Rubis - Medes Islands

Rubis. Even the name sounds good, doesn’t it? This site in the Medes Islands is a proper journey. We like to drop in and follow the wall down, watching for the light filtering through the Bushy Coral. It’s not about huge pelagics here, though we have seen the occasional curious Common Dolphin passing through. Instead, it’s about the smaller, intricate stuff. Think Elliptical File-Shells tucked into crevices and the delicate plumes of Shore Feather Duster Worms. We’d suggest going early, before the boat traffic picks up. The visibility is often at its best then, letting you appreciate the scale of the wall and the subtle blues of the deeper water. Keep an eye out for Blackfish darting amongst the rocks; they’re quick. This site is brilliant for divers who appreciate a slower pace, those who like to really observe. It’s a photographer's dream for macro shots, but also rewarding for anyone who wants to just drift and soak it all in. The current can pick up a bit on certain tides, so pay attention, but it’s generally a pretty relaxed dive.
