sa Tuna - Medes Islands

Sa Tuna is our kind of dive in the Medes, a bit quieter than the main attractions and all the better for it. We love dropping onto the sandy bottom here, maybe 15 metres down, because you know what’s coming: a masterclass in Mediterranean macro. Keep your eyes peeled for pearlfish tucked away in sea cucumbers – they’re shy, but if you hang back you’ll spot them. We’ve also had some fantastic encounters with stingrays gliding over the sand, which is always a treat. What makes Sa Tuna special, for us, is the sheer density of life in a relatively compact space. You’re not just looking for the big stuff, but the small, the camouflaged, the things that reward patience. Poor cod dart amongst the rocks, and those Variable Loggerhead Sponges always seem to harbour a green shrimp or two. It’s a site that really suits divers who enjoy a slower pace, who like to spend time really observing the smaller details. We’d suggest going early, before any afternoon chop picks up, for the best light and the calmest conditions.
