Saint Dominique - Medes Islands

Saint Dominique, for us, is one of the more compelling wreck dives in the Medes Islands, especially if you appreciate how quickly the Mediterranean claims a structure. This isn't some ancient wreck picked clean by time; it's a fishing boat, a relatively modern one, that settled on its port side at around 27 metres. What we love about it is the way the hull has become a canvas for life. You’ll find walls of Mediterranean beadlet anemones, all purple and orange, alongside bright yellow sponges. Swim through the remains of the bridge, if the current allows, and look for black sea bream darting from the shadows. The cargo hold is mostly open, a good spot to search for horn shells or even a reclusive cowfish tucked away. Visibility here can sometimes be a bit moody, especially in the late summer, but on a good day, the light filtering through the wreckage is just beautiful. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration rather than a quick swim-through. Keep an eye out for larger snappers patrolling the deeper sections of the hull. This site really shines for divers who enjoy poking around, imagining the boat's working life, and seeing how the sea reclaims its own.
