S'Encalladora - Medes Islands

S'Encalladora. Now this one's a cracker for the Medes, a place we’ve always enjoyed for its raw, rugged feel. We love this site because it’s a bit of a chameleon, offering something different almost every time you drop in. You’ll weave through impressive rock formations, a jumble of boulders and cracks that provide perfect ambush spots for fork-beards and hake. Keep your eyes peeled on the sand patches between the rocks for starry skates, sometimes just a pair of eyes peeking out, or the slender rockfish hugging the crevices. The real draw here, for us, is the sheer number of murudai. They’re everywhere, darting in and out, their scales flashing. It’s a site that feels wild, a little untamed, and that’s why we rate it. We’d suggest going early if you can manage it; the light filtering through the rocks is just stunning then, and you might catch the pearlfish starting their day. Currents can pick up, so it's a spot that rewards confident divers who appreciate a bit of movement.
