Société Nautique Estaque Mourepiane - Medes Islands

Société Nautique Estaque Mourepiane. Try saying that after a few sangrias. This spot off the Medes Islands might not have the flashy caves or dramatic drop-offs of some neighbours, but it’s our quiet champion for uncovering the smaller, more elusive characters. We love it because it forces you to slow down, really look. The seabed here is a subtle mix, mostly sand and scattered rocks, perfect camouflage for the likes of the Atlantic stargazer – those goofy ambush predators with eyes on top of their heads. Keep your eyes peeled for seahorses swaying gently amongst the sparse seagrass, and we’ve had some fantastic encounters with spotted dragonets, tiny, colourful fish that scuttle along the bottom. It’s a site that rewards patience. We’d suggest going early in the morning before the boat traffic picks up; the light is softer and the critters seem bolder. Visibility can vary, but generally, you're looking at a good 15-20 metres on a calm day, giving you plenty of scope to search. This dive isn't about grand vistas; it's about the joy of discovery, of spotting a cowfish or a butterfly blenny meticulously tending its patch. It's the perfect dive for macro lovers, underwater photographers, or anyone who appreciates the quieter side of the Mediterranean.
