Tiboulen de Maire - Medes Islands

Tiboulen de Maire always feels like a proper Medes dive, just a little less frenetic than some of the main island sites. We love dropping onto the top of the reef, maybe 10-12 metres, and letting the visibility open up. It’s often good here, a proper Mediterranean blue. Look for the massive schools of deep-body pickarel and sprinters, they really thicken the water sometimes. Further down, the red mullet root around, always busy. Our favourite part is the wall itself, falling away into the gloom. You’ll find big patches of bushy coral and pink sea fans clinging to the rock. Keep an eye out for conger eels peering from crevices; they’re pretty bold here. We’ve had some great encounters with triggerfish, too, just cruising by. For photographers, the elliptical file-shells offer a nice, vibrant splash of colour. This site suits divers who appreciate a classic Mediterranean wall dive, especially those who like exploring the smaller nooks for critters, without the jostle of the more popular areas.
