Underwater path for snorkelling - Medes Islands

The Underwater Path in the Medes Islands is a proper treat, even for us jaded divers. Forget about hauling all your gear, this one is pure snorkel bliss. You follow a series of buoys, each with an underwater information plaque, which sounds a bit touristy, but it actually works. We love that it pushes you to slow down, to really look. Visibility here can be twenty meters on a good day, and the sunlight filters through the water, making the seagrass meadows shimmer. You’ll definitely spot thick clumps of Mediterranean tapeweed swaying in the gentle current, and it's a fantastic place to observe common octopuses peering out from crevices. Keep an eye out for the yellow-legged gulls circling above; they’re often a clue to where the fish are. We often see sand stars spread out on the seabed, their arms perfectly camouflaged. It's not a deep thrill, but rather a gentle exploration, perfectly suited for families or anyone who wants a relaxed peek into the Medes' marine life without the faff of a full dive. Go early to beat the crowds, or later in the afternoon when the light is softer.
