Wrack 'Sagona' (Le Grec) - Medes Islands

Our pick for a proper wreck dive in the Medes Islands, the *Sagona* offers a different kind of dive compared to the usual rocky reefs. This cargo ship went down in 1953, carrying cement and a small car, and now she sits upright on the seabed, broken into two main sections. Dropping down, we love seeing the sheer scale of the bow section, still quite intact, with schools of barracuda often hanging in formation above the deck. The stern is more broken up, but that means more swim-throughs and crevices to poke around in, perfect for spotting conger eels and hefty lobsters tucked deep inside. We always find the *Sagona* offers great macro opportunities too; keep an eye out for the colourful Devonshire cup corals coating the metalwork and the tiny speckled sea-lice scuttling over the rust. It’s a dive that really rewards a slow, methodical exploration – don’t rush past the details. We'd suggest aiming for a calm day; the deeper sections can get a bit surgey when there's a swell running.
