KEROGAN - Tabarka

The Kerogan wreck, just off Tabarka, is one of those sites that always brings a smile. We love it because it’s a proper wreck experience without the usual depth demands. This old trawler, which ran aground back in ’75, now sits perfectly upright in just 10 metres of water. It’s an easy dive, really. The bow faces the shore, and you can swim right through the wheelhouse, which is surprisingly intact. We’ve seen schools of damselfish swirling around the mast, and the engine room is home to some seriously large dusky groupers. They often eye you suspiciously from the shadows. The light play through the old portholes is fantastic on a sunny day. It makes for some brilliant photography, especially if you catch it mid-morning. It’s a site that really suits anyone keen on wreck exploration without the hassle of deep decompression, and for photographers, the shallow depth means long bottom times to nail that perfect shot.
