MAASSLUIS - Tabarka

The Maassluis is a big one. Seriously, at 172 metres, this tanker is an epic dive, even if she did break into three pieces when she hit the breakwater back in '89. We love the sheer scale of the wreckage. You can fin along the stern section, imagining the sheer force of that gale that drove her onto the rocks. Down at 30 metres, the visibility here often plays ball, letting you take in the enormity of the collapsed superstructure. Our favourite part has to be the engine room access. It's a proper adventure, dark and atmospheric, with shafts of light occasionally cutting through gaps in the metal. Inside, big groupers often lurk in the shadows, unbothered by divers. Look out for the nudibranchs too, clinging to the rust. This site definitely suits experienced wreck divers who appreciate a bit of history and a decent penetration. Be mindful of potential currents, especially around the exposed sections, and always bring a good torch.
