VARLAAM AVAN ESOV - Kas & Kekova

The Varlaam Avan Esov sits deep, a proper technical dive at 50 metres, but it’s worth the effort. This isn't just a sunken boat; it's a piece of history, a tanker taken out by a British submarine in 1941. We love how intact it still feels, the sheer scale of the thing. You’ll fin down, descending through the clear blue until the deck emerges, vast and shadowy. Our favourite part is exploring the stern, the propeller still there, defiant against the current. Large groupers cruise in and out of the holds, and we've seen schools of barracuda hanging in the gloom above the superstructure, their silver scales glinting. Visibility here is usually excellent, giving that feeling of endless space around the wreck. It suits experienced divers comfortable with depth and perhaps a bit of overhead penetration, though you can spend a good hour just tracing the deck lines. Look out for the resident morays peering from the darker corners of the engine room. It’s a humbling dive, quiet and profound.
