Yenibatik wreck - Kas & Kekova

The Yenibatik wreck, just outside Kaş harbour, is one of our favourite dives in the area. This isn’t some ancient ruin, it’s a modern cargo ship, purposefully sunk in 1989. You descend onto the deck at around 18 metres, and the bow points down to a sandy bottom at 28 metres. It’s pretty much intact, lying on its starboard side, which makes for some fantastic swim-throughs. We especially like heading into the cargo holds – they’re wide open, letting in plenty of light, so it never feels spooky. Inside, you'll often find big schools of glassfish shimmering in the shafts of light. Look out for the resident moray eels peeking from crevices, and the occasional octopus tucked away in the shadows. The propellor is still there, a massive brass spiral, now home to colourful nudibranchs and sponges. Visibility here is usually excellent, around 20-30 metres, so you get a full view of the ship. It’s a brilliant dive for photographers, and really good for anyone comfortable with slightly deeper dives and overhead environments. Just watch your buoyancy in those holds; the silt can kick up easily.
