Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - BEATRICE offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Beatrice is a good example of what a smaller wreck can offer here in Cornwall. Sunk back in '88 after a run-in with the FV Gratitude, this 9.1m yacht went down quickly and now rests at 45m. It’s pretty broken up, as you'd expect after a few decades on the seabed, but the frame still provides shelter for squat lobsters and the occasional anglerfish. We find it’s a site that suits experienced divers who appreciate the history of a wreck more than a pristine structure. The currents here can be a bit lively, so good boat handling and decent air consumption are key.
