    StandoutExceptional marine biodiversity

We love a wreck that tells a story, and the *Charter* does just that. This drifter vessel, which ran aground in a fog back in 1933, now lies in just 2m of water. It’s barely a dive, more a snorkel or a free dive, but it’s absolutely worth the effort for something genuinely different. You’re exploring history here. The *Charter* is broken up, but you can still make out the single boiler and parts of the triple expansion engine – they’re surprisingly intact for a wreck this shallow and old. We spent ages tracing the line of the hull, picturing the crew heading out for fishing from Plymouth. The wreck itself has become a haven for crabs and small fish, darting between the rusted plates. Visibility can be hit or miss, typical for the UK, but on a calm, sunny day, the ambient light filtering through the water onto the dark metal is genuinely atmospheric. It’s a superb spot for underwater photographers looking for a unique, shallow wreck shot. We’d suggest going at slack tide for the clearest view.
