CIESZYN - Cornwall & Devon

The Cieszyn wreck, off the coast of Cornwall, is one of our favourite deep dives in the UK. She’s a decent size, 71 metres long, and lies intact on a sandy seabed at 58 metres, upright and proud. We particularly love the feeling of dropping onto her, knowing she was bombed by an aircraft in 1940. There’s a quiet solemnity to the dive, yet she’s absolutely buzzing with life. You’ll find walls thick with plumose anemones, their white tentacles reaching out like soft flowers in the current. Ling often hide in the darker recesses, and sometimes we spot conger eels poking their heads out from deeper within the structure. The stern section is particularly interesting, with the propeller still in place and a good area to explore for those comfortable with the depth and a bit of overhead penetration. This is a dive for experienced wreck enthusiasts, those who appreciate history and the challenge of a deeper, darker site. Be sure to time your dive for slack water; currents can be fierce, making the descent and ascent tricky otherwise.
