Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - DOROTHY E offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Dorothy E. might not be the grandest wreck in Cornwall, but we love her character. Lying at a shallow 11 metres, she’s a perfect pick for a relaxed second dive or when the weather's a bit frisky further offshore. We remember our last dive there, the light filtering down, making the rust-orange hull glow faintly against the sandy seabed. She’s an 8.5-metre fishing vessel, sank quickly in 1985 after developing a leak. Now, she lies upright and mostly intact, a fantastic little playground. Look for the propellor, still bolted on, and the small wheelhouse structure. We’ve spotted countless crabs tucked into the nooks and crannies, and often, a curious conger eel peering out from beneath the deck plates. The visibility here can be surprisingly good on a calm day, giving you a clear view of the dense kelp surrounding the wreck, swaying gently with the surge. She’s a lovely, undemanding dive, excellent for newer wreck divers or photographers wanting to practice their close-up shots without fighting current.
