HAMOAZE - Cornwall & Devon

The Hamoaze wreck, a small fishing vessel that went down in 1989, is one of those sites we always come back to for a quick, satisfying dive. At only 7m, it’s a brilliant spot for less experienced divers or anyone just wanting an easy afternoon in the water. We love pottering around the remains, which are now heavily draped in dead man’s fingers, their creamy white polyps swaying gently in the slight current. She’s a modest wreck, around 10m long, but what she lacks in size she makes up for in character. You can still make out the general shape of her hull, often with a curious pollack darting from what was likely the wheelhouse. Keep an eye out for blennies peering from crevices and the occasional spider crab scuttling across the deck. Our favourite time to dive Hamoaze is on a calm, sunny day when the light filters down, making the greens and oranges of the encrusting life really pop. It’s a gentle dive, perfectly suited for a relaxed explore, and a great way to introduce newer divers to wreck diving without any daunting depths or strong currents.
