HAZEL CLAIRE (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon

Forget your grand liners and battleships; the *Hazel Claire* has a quiet charm we really appreciate. Sunk in 1991, this small fishing vessel sits upright in around 43 metres, making it a solid advanced dive. It’s only 7.3 metres long, so you won’t be doing long penetration dives, but that just means more time to really observe the details. We love how quickly this wreck has become part of the seabed. Visibility can be a typical Cornish affair – 10 to 15 metres on a good day, less when there's a strong westerly blow. What you’ll find is a wreck covered in plumose anemones, their white tentacles swaying gently in the current. Look closely into the nooks and crannies of the wheelhouse and you'll often spot conger eels, not shy about peeking out. Around the deck, expect to see small shoals of bib darting about and maybe a few resident wrasse. It’s a dive for those who enjoy the intimacy of a smaller wreck, the way nature reclaims man-made objects, and a bit of depth without overwhelming complexity. Our top tip? Go on a slack tide, you’ll get more time to explore without fighting any push.
