Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - HMS LORD STONEHAVEN offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The HMS Lord Stonehaven, a trawler pressed into anti-submarine service, sits upright at 58 metres off the Cornish coast. She went down in 1942, likely torpedoed by a German E-boat, and now offers a fascinating deep dive. At 47.5 metres long, she's a substantial wreck, with a good deal of her structure still intact. We've seen conger eels poking out from the collapsed sections and decent-sized pollack holding station around the mast. It's a dive best suited for experienced technical divers comfortable with the depth and colder British waters, and the rewards are well worth the effort.
