IRIS - Cornwall & Devon
The Iris, a sailing vessel that met its end in 1846, lies just off the cliffs between Poldhu Cove and Mullion. At a shallow 8 metres, it’s a site we often suggest for newer wreck divers or anyone looking for a relaxed exploration. What remains of the Iris is well-broken, but you can still make out the general shape of a hull, particularly the ribs that stick up from the seabed. These timbers have become home to a surprising amount of life – we’ve seen plenty of wrasse darting between the frames, and often spot crabs tucked into crevices. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for extending bottom time and practising wreck navigation without strong currents or deep commitments.
