ISLAND MIST - Cornwall & Devon

The Island Mist in Cornwall is a wreck we always recommend, despite its shallow depth. It's not a site for hunting down big pelagics, but rather for a slow, detailed exploration. We love how accessible it is, sitting upright at just 12 metres, making it perfect for longer bottom times and really getting to know a wreck. This isn't some deep, dark behemoth. The Island Mist is an old fishing trawler, sunk at its mooring, so it’s largely intact and upright. You can spend ages poking around the wheelhouse, seeing the gauges still in place, or peering into the hold. Inside, conger eels often peek out from shadowy corners, and you'll spot plenty of blennies darting amongst the rust. Outside, the decks are now thick with anemones, their tentacles swaying gently with the surge, and the occasional dogfish rests on the sand nearby. Our favourite time to dive it is on a slack tide, with good sunlight filtering down; the colours of the anemones and soft corals really pop then. It's a genuinely atmospheric dive, feeling like a snapshot of a working boat, now a home for the sea life.
