JO-ANNE - Cornwall & Devon

The Jo-Anne, a small fishing vessel sunk in 1976 after an unfortunate encounter with a buoy, holds a special place for us in the sheltered waters of Cornwall. At only 15 metres, it’s a perfect introductory wreck dive, especially for those getting their fins wet in UK waters for the first time. We love drifting over her modest remains, a stark reminder of the everyday working boats that plied these coasts. What you'll find here isn't a grand, intact ship, but rather a charming scatter of wooden hull and machinery, now thoroughly adopted by local marine life. Look closely amongst the timbers and you'll spot crabs scuttling for cover, small pollock darting through gaps, and sometimes, a shy conger eel peeking from beneath a salvaged panel. Visibility here can be surprisingly good on a calm day, especially with a bit of sunshine filtering through, highlighting the rich greens and browns of the kelp and anemones that have colonised the wreck. It’s a gentle dive, best enjoyed slowly, allowing time to appreciate the subtle beauty of a wreck returning to the sea.
