The LCV(P) 1199, a landing craft vessel scuttled off Cornwall in 1944, isn't a deep dive, sitting at a comfortable 10 metres. This makes it a fantastic site for anyone looking for an easy wreck penetration or just a longer bottom time without the decompression worries. We love it for its accessibility, especially on a sunny day when the light penetrates right down, illuminating the wreck’s skeletal remains. What you'll find here is a surprisingly intact hull, well-colonised by the usual suspects of British waters. Crabs scuttle in and out of the plating, while small schools of pollack often hang around the more sheltered sections. It’s a joy to explore; you can fin through the open cargo hold, imagining the scene all those decades ago. Our favourite part? The way the kelp has draped itself over the metalwork, creating a living tapestry that sways with the gentle surge. It’s a quiet, reflective dive, perfect for photographers wanting to capture a piece of history reclaimed by the sea. Just be mindful of the current if there's been recent heavy weather; it can pick up a bit here.
