MOHEGAN - Cornwall & Devon

The Mohegan, resting at 20 metres, is one of those wrecks that just grabs you. We often find ourselves drawn back to her, especially when the conditions are just right – a calm day, minimal swell, and a decent tide window. She was a massive liner, 147 metres long, and though she went down in 1898, there's still so much of her hull to trace. You’ll weave through impressive sections of plating, sometimes pushing through schools of pollock that swirl around the structure. Our favourite part has to be the boilers, four of them, still very much intact and looming large, providing shelter for lobsters and conger eels that peer out from the gloom. The sheer scale of the Mohegan is what makes her a standout. It's not a wreck you "do" in one dive; it's a site you explore section by section, each visit revealing another detail. You'll find yourself finning over expanses of deck, imagining the grand passages she once made. For photographers, the light playing on the huge hull sections, often silhouetted by curious wrasse, makes for some striking shots. It’s a dive that rewards repeat visits and suits those who appreciate the history and the slow reclamation of steel by the sea. Just be mindful of the currents; they can pick up quickly here, so always check your tide tables.
