MOODY BLUE - Cornwall & Devon

The Moody Blue, resting at a shallow 13 metres, is our kind of wreck dive. It’s accessible, even when the Cornish weather decides to be a bit moody itself, and the history here is tangible. Sunk in 1983, this yacht isn’t some ancient galleon, but that’s precisely its charm. It feels like a recent ghost, a snapshot of maritime misfortune. We love dropping onto her deck, still largely intact, and poking around the cabin. You can almost feel the last moments of its journey. The stern is our favourite spot, often swarming with schools of pollack, shimmering silver against the dark metal. Ling often lurk in the deeper nooks, and we’ve seen some surprisingly large lobsters tucked away in the engine room. Visibility here can be a classic Cornish mix, from a glorious 15 metres to a murky five, but even on the dimmer days, the wreck’s compact size makes it an engaging exploration. It’s an ideal site for anyone looking for a relaxed wreck dive with a good sense of history, without the need for deep diving certs or long bottom times. Just remember your torch, some of those interior spaces are pretty dark, even on a bright day.
