OMER DENISE - Cornwall & Devon

The Omer Denise is pure Cornish wreck diving, a proper old trawler that ran aground near Coverack way back in 1932. What’s left of her is spread across a shallow, rocky seabed, and that’s precisely why we love it. Forget deep, dark penetration; this is about scrambling over her broken ribs and plates, seeing how the ocean has just taken over. You’ll find bits of engine still recognisable, maybe a winch or two, all encrusted with dense carpets of anemones – the jewel anemones really pop here, fiery oranges and reds against the darker rock. Schools of pollack often hang in the dappled light, and we’ve seen some decent lobsters tucked into the nooks. It’s a site that changes with the tide and swell, so pick a calm day with a spring high to get the best out of it. We’d suggest going in late summer or early autumn for the clearest water. It’s perfect for divers who enjoy piecing together a story from scattered remains, or just want a relaxed, colourful bimble without any serious depth.
