ROCK ISLAND BRIDGE - Cornwall & Devon
The Rock Island Bridge, an old steamship that went down after a clash with the SS Kenosha in 1920, sits in a shallow 8 metres, making it a good option for newer divers or those looking for a longer bottom time. What’s left of her is quite broken up across the seabed, but you can still pick out the hull plates and machinery. It’s an interesting hunt, with plenty of nooks and crannies that have become home to crabs, lobsters, and a good variety of local fish. We usually find it best on a slack tide, with visibility often hovering around 5 to 8 metres, so bring a good torch to really poke around the wreck’s hidden corners.
