ROYAL ANNE GALLEY - Cornwall & Devon
The Royal Anne Galley, lost to a storm off The Lizard in 1721, sits in a shallow, often lively spot. At just two metres, this is less a dive and more a snorkel or very calm shore entry on a good day. We’ve found scattered timbers, often half-buried in shifting sand, with crabs scuttling amongst them and small blennies darting into crevices. It’s a site for history buffs who appreciate the subtle details of an ancient wreck, rather than those seeking big schools of fish. Visibility can be hit or miss, so pick your day carefully, aiming for slack water on a high tide if you can.
