SANTO CHRISTO DE CASTELLO (POSSIBLY) - Cornwall & Devon
Diving the Santo Christo de Castello, or what we strongly suspect is her, feels like stepping back into maritime history. This 1588 wreck lies in around 11 metres, making it a good pick for those who prefer shallower dives with a sense of adventure. You won't find huge pelagics here, but the wreck has become a home for lobsters and crabs tucked into the timbers, and small shoals of pollack drift around the remaining structure. It’s a site for exploring the bones of an old sailing vessel, imagining the stories it holds, rather than a coral spectacle. We'd suggest going at slack water to really take your time examining the wreck’s details.
