With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SEVERN TRANSPORT offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Severn Transport, a steamship that met its end in 1941 after hitting a mine, now rests at a very manageable 15 meters. It’s a good spot for a relaxed wreck dive. What's left of her structure forms a home for plenty of local critters – think plump crabs tucked into crevices and small schools of wrasse darting through the fractured hull plates. We find the relatively shallow depth means you get good bottom time, perfect for really poking around the scattered debris and getting a feel for the ship’s past. Visibility can be typical for the area, so pick a calm day if you can.
