    StandoutExceptional marine biodiversity

The Soudan, a steamship that met its end in thick fog back in 1887, rests at a maximum depth of 18 metres right at the entrance to Salcombe Harbour. It’s a good, solid wreck for those days when you’re looking for something accessible and not too deep. We find it’s broken up quite a bit, but you can still make out the general shape of the vessel amongst the rock. There's a decent amount of detail if you take your time, with crevices and overhangs providing shelter for the usual suspects: pollack, wrasse, and plenty of those small, inquisitive crabs. It’s an easy dive, a nice steady potter, and a good option for shaking off the rust or introducing newer divers to wreck diving without anything too challenging.
