STROMBOLI - Cornwall & Devon
The Stromboli, a steamship lost in 1878, sits in a very shallow three metres of water off the Lizard. What’s left of her – mostly plates and engine parts – is well scattered, but it’s still interesting to trace the outline of a vessel that once plied the waters between Le Havre and Liverpool. Because of the depth, the ambient light is excellent, illuminating the kelp and anenomes that have firmly taken root. We’ve spotted crabs tucked into crevices and the occasional inquisitive wrasse. It’s a nice gentle dive, especially good for newer wreck enthusiasts or as a second dive after something deeper. Just keep an eye on the tides for the easiest entry and exit.
