Why dive here
With 176+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and ocean sunfish (mola mola) - SUFFOLK offers some of Cornwall & Devon's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 10-18°C, warmest July, August, September.
The Suffolk, a steamship that went down in 1886, now rests in just two metres of water, making it a proper shallow dive. You're essentially hovering over the remains of an old cargo vessel, and while it's broken up, there’s enough structure to give you a sense of its original scale. Expect to see plenty of local fish darting through the twisted metal, with crabs and lobsters tucked into any available crevice. It's a site that suits newer divers or those looking for a relaxed, longer bottom time, ideal for really observing the resident marine life and appreciating the history without the pressure of depth. It's not a deep-sea adventure, but a gentle exploration of a piece of maritime past.
