The Violet wreck, despite its shallow depth, has a real story. This isn't some deep, dark mystery, but rather a gentle reminder of the past, sitting just three metres down. We love it because it’s so accessible, a perfect option for those days when the deeper sites are a bit too lumpy. What you'll find here is the scattered remains of a lighter vessel, sunk back in 1919. It’s broken up, more a debris field than an intact ship, but that’s its charm. Think metal plates, twisted beams, and the outline of what was once a working boat. Sunlight filters through the kelp, illuminating the rust-coloured metal, and that’s where the life gathers. Ballan wrasse dart in and out of the crevices, and you’ll often spot crabs scuttling amongst the wreckage. We’d suggest a calm day to fully appreciate the details; it’s a brilliant spot for macro photography, especially the anemones that have colonised every available surface. It’s less about penetration and more about exploring the character of a century-old wreck, close to the surface. Ideal for newer divers, or anyone who just fancies a relaxed potter with a bit of history thrown in.
