WITHERN - Cornwall & Devon

The Withered dredger wreck, lying a mere six metres deep, is one of our top picks for a gentle, extended dive. It's not a deep, dramatic plummet into the abyss, but rather an intimate exploration of a structure utterly reclaimed by the sea. We love nosing around the exposed parts of the hull, feeling the surge gently rock us as we search for whatever critters have made it home. What makes Withern special is its accessibility and the way light filters through the shallow water, illuminating the vibrant growth on its skeletal remains. You’ll find dabs of colour from jewel anemones clinging to metalwork, and often see wrasse darting in and out of the nooks and crannies. Keep an eye out for dogfish tucked under sections of twisted plate too; they’re often snoozing there. This site is brilliant for newer divers wanting to get comfortable on a wreck without the added challenge of depth, and for photographers who appreciate the natural light and relaxed pace. It's an easy dive that truly lets you slow down and appreciate the details.
